Elisabeth Heurtefeu

Elisabeth Heurtefeu is the founder and executive director of Child to Child International. This organization was born out of the events surrounding September 11, 2001. She felt that a severe lack of cultural understanding was an important contriburory factor that led to that tragic day, and that effective change can only come about if the future generations are spared the disparity that the generations before them have had to endure.
With two decades of teaching experience across two continents, Elisabeth Heurtefeu felt compelled to do what she could to address discrepancies in cultural understanding within an educational sphere. As an eleven years French resident in Chicago, she understands the importance of bridging linguistic and cultural barriers. Elisabeth Heurtefeu is currently the principal at LaSalle Language Academy, a Chicago public school teaching five languages to K-8 students.

Peg Birmingham

Peg Birmingham is the Chair of the Philosophy Department at DePaul University, Chicago. She is especially interested in the issue of Ethics and Politics. After reading the Child to Child International concept proposal, she said:

"It has become imperative to foster an awareness of human rigths in our children, bringing together children of different backgrounds. I also think that children in grades 4-5-6 are at the perfect age to begin these considerations. It is exciting that this project will bring together children of different cultures on the issue of human rights. They are our hope for a different way of being in the world."
